Halloween Decorating

Last week of September and then we can start on Halloween, After Ike we had a great cold front that blew through our area thankfully since most of the city was out of power it was great to open windows and smell fall in the air for the first time, that is always a special thing.

As we do every year we will head to Dewberry Farms to their pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect pumpkins, they always have the best selection and you actually get to cut them from the vines. My favorite are the Cindarella Pumpkins, which are flat and usually white.

October 08's issue of Martha Stewart is full of great decorating ideas like the one above, If you would like the instruction on how to do this in your yard go here. Happy Pumpkin hunting!

Aftermath of Ike...

No photos to post today but just my thoughts on Ike. We thankfully came out of the storm unharmed as did our home. The night of the storm we sustained around 85 mph winds that tore up our trees and tried to blow down our fences. It sounded like a train was circling the house from about 1am to 5am Saturday morning, we lost power but it was restored on Sunday around noon. Half of Houston is still without power 11 days later, there was so much damage to Galveston and downtown Houston it is amazing to see how powerful a storm can be, it was frightening to say the least. It still remains dangerous to drive at night as so many traffic and street lights are out and people are not stopping as they travel all over the city to find food or gas which finally has started to be restocked. I defiantly take for granted the big things in life, electricity, gas at the gas station, fully stocked grocery stores, hot water, milk in the frig. Not again, we continue to thank God everyday for keeping our family safe and will pray for those not as fortunate as they have lost everything and have nowhere to go, it will be months before this area is back to "normal". The boys are back to school and Harry is back to work.

Time for Fall

Always seems that I either force spring or force fall...it is so hot here that but when the wind blows you can tell it is right around the corner. I love fall, I love Halloween, started snooping around and wanted to show you some fun things I found.
STORIA HOME Hand makes these great little signs, you can find her ofcourse on Etsy, I think it is simple adorable! They have special occasions and can customize these for you too!

I love anything painted by Gustav Kilmt and my latest impressioin of Frida Kahlo has been nothing short of simple brilant, I actually love how she paints her self portorats and gives much hommage to the Day of the Dead. (If you havent seen Freida directed by Julie Taymor yet it is worth watching, she had a very interesting/hard life and Taymor's vision is awesome as always). Ok so back to this painting, Cat Box Art Studio's combines these two artist in a brillant piece, I just love it!

Vintage and So cute, what else can I say? You can find this here at Webby Sue

So it may be September and fall is right around the corner even thought our hot humid Houston weather disagrees at least I can get geared up for it.

First Day of Pre-K

Well it's offocial, my babies are in school. Such a bittersweet milestone, they are so excited and loving every minute of school (so far) and until the baby arrives I'm not sure what to do with myself, house is clean, beds are made and dinner is planned but I miss them terribly. I can't wait to get them when the school bell lets out!

Photo Editing Help!

I am in some desperate need of photo editing help. This is where owning your own business comes in frustrating...after creating, sewing, clipping threads, pressing, tying perfect bows and trying to capture the best light...the photos still come out just plain ole ugly. Nothing looks as bad in person as it does in my photos and I'm just getting really frustrated. I wish I could make cute little ad's to send out to our customers but the time and frustration are just not worth it! Any suggestions everyone? This was made with Power Point...because it is so easy to use, I can't stand my version of Coral, I need to go to photo editing school! Oh yeah I just forgot...I don't have time!

Something done before Hubby gets home!

So Hubby has been out of town for what will end up being a couple weeks. It is hard to get too motivated to do much of anything since I have been so tired lately with the pregnancy however determined not to be a lazy wife I decided to tackle little details of the boys bathroom, I am usually all over this kind of stuff especially since we have just moved in to a new house but lack of a decorating fund had left me without any ideas...who doesn't want all new stuff in a new house right? Well I think it is going to turn out pretty great. We kept the boys old Dogs and Cats shower curtain and I am finally running with this "theme" If the baby is a girl it will be perfect for boys and girls.

Since finishing the Cat towel I was nagged by two 4 year olds to get the Dog one done too. All from scraps...except for the red bone material..I could not pass that up. A couple crisp new white towels ($3.00 each) this is what I came up with.

So we hit a kids re-sale shop today and lucky me I found this little night light for $2.00!! Very abstract just like the other stuff in their bathroom...

Now for the art...A good friend of mine painted a picture of my old dog Oreo, it needs a new mat and frame but I think it will be a nice addition too.

One more piece of art, this was drawn by Harry's cousin...for Isaac and Logan. I think she was around 5 or 6 when she drew it, I have always loved it and held on to it for like 3 years! I think this needs a proper frame since it fits with the whole abstract theme too don't you think?? So after the purchase of the frames and a little wooden shelf I got from Hobby Lobby for $3.00 I have decorated the boys for less than $25.00! Pretty cool huh?
